Senior Pet Care
Old age, whether in a human or a pet, is NOT a disease--it's a happy destination of a life's journey, and means we did everything right!
American pets, like their owners, are living longer and longer. A reasonable life expectancy for a small- or medium-sized dog now is 15-17 years; we should get AT LEAST 20 years with our cats! Wow!
Our senior pets (those 7 years of age or older) are truly our family treasures, and deserve regular health checks to make sure any health concern is detected early. Early detection makes almost all health issues easier and less expensive to manage, as well as insuring the pet's discomfort is minimized.
Windmill Animal Hospital has an excellent management plan for senior dogs and cats, to help insure they live as long and healthy a life as possible.
Senior dogs and cats should have basic blood work performed at least every 12 months, to assess internal health (such as kidney function), as well as a blood pressure check, glaucoma check, and oral exam.
Sound expensive? It's not! Since Windmill Animal Hospital performs almost all lab work in-house, and has the proper equipment to evaluate blood pressure and eye pressure, our senior pet wellness packages are amazingly thrifty!
